Tao Te Ching, 5

Heaven and Earth are not humane. They regard all things a straw dogs.
The sage is not humane. He regards all people as straw dogs.

How Heaven and Earth are like a bellows. While vacuous, it is never exhausted. When active, it produces even more.
Much talk will of course come to a dead end. It is better to keep to the centre (Tao Te Ching, 5)

Today, I would try to interpret the above text which is translated by Wing-Tsit Chan.

The above text asserts that Lao Tzu is really teaching about the ways of nature instead of the ways of humanity. In the text, Lao Tzu said that the Heaven and Earth are not humane, thus a sage, who wanted to be one with the Tao, should also be not humane. meaning the sage is someone who doesn't settle or base with the ways of humanity. The sage should be like the Heaven and Earth that is silent. He should not be like humanity that produces noise, thus they are easily swayed. Because of the noise created, they cannot anymore hear themselves; of what their inner self wants. The sage must learn to listen to his inner self to know what it truly desires.

As a sage, he must be like Heaven and Earth; never gets worn out from knowing the Tao and when he acts, he brings a lot of people closer to the Tao.
